Create a wind down routine so the baby does not think that going to bed equals missing out on fun, and avoid an overtired baby. Overtired babies wake up more frequently at night.
Ditch the tickle-fest and replace with a massage and a cuddle, lullaby, storytime, or swaddling for a younger babies. (Skip the TV it is stimulating and makes it harder to fall asleep.)
From birth to about 4-5 months babies innately have a startle reflex (they feel like they are falling). The jerking movements from this sensation can cause baby to wake up. Swaddling will help to reduce the startle reflex.
